Gay Parade, 1974 — Women march in the Gay Parade for the first time in large numbers. Minority groups over the years have faced criticism when they wanted to form contingents in the parade. In 1973, women were not made to feel welcome at the parade (then called the “Gay Parade” and not the “LGBT Pride Parade”). I brought Harvey Milk to a parade planning meeting and leaned back while Harvey yelled at the committee until they agreed to extend some courtesy to women’s groups. The mainstream press remarked that they had not seen lesbians before. And this group caused a sensation as they marched down Market Street. Shows : San Francisco…According to Rink
